It is a theatre form which combines dance, music, dialogues, costumes, make up and stage techniques with a  unique style and form. This particular art form is practised in Karnataka and Kerela. It is presented from dusk till dawn. Yakshagana means the song of the Yaksha(nature spirits). The motif of the faces varies from heroes, demons and female characters. This particular art form is only performed by men. The costumes are rich in colour and it consists of a dhoti, a pyjama, a jacket or a vest and a loose gown. The ornaments are made of light wood, pieces of mirror and coloured stones. The performance consists of background music which is played by a group of musicians called the himmela and a dance and dialogue group called the mummela. They depict stories from the epic poems and ancient hindu texts.
